Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1450 CE. A mantle panel woven from camelid wool and cotton, featuring a large abstract creature surrounded by repeating geometric motifs rendered in red-pink and dark blue supplementary weft, on a plain weave ground. The field shows a soft white-beige tone that has darkened with age. A stepped red fringe runs along one edge, adding a bold linear element to the composition. The textile is mounted on a modern cloth backing, unevenly cut with corner notches for framing and display. Size of weaving: 16.5″ L x 15″ W (41.9 cm x 38.1 cm); backing: 26″ L x 22.5″ W (66 cm x 57.2 cm)

Condition: Mounted on a modern white cloth backing and ready to be framed. Losses to fibers and tears throughout, with heavy staining and discoloration as expected with burial.
