Lot 142c, Auction 4/12/2026: Celine Tricolor Leather Trapeze Bag (2014)
$715.00
In stock
Crafted in Italy in 2014, the design pairs smooth black leather with a beige flap and soft tan suede side panels of calf hair, creating a subtle contrast of tone and texture. The structured silhouette is defined by its signature flared “winged” sides, a hallmark of the Trapeze line, which gives the bag its sculptural form and effortless sophistication. The front flap secures with a square gold-toned push-lock clasp engraved with the Celine logo, opening to reveal a spacious interior lined in supple leather and fitted with a front zip pocket for organization. A top handle offers a refined hand-held option, while the long leather strap – fully detachable – adds versatility for shoulder or crossbody wear. Size: 17″ L x 6″ W x 8.25″ H (43.2 cm x 15.2 cm x 21 cm)
The combination of minimalist design, luxurious materials, and impeccable craftsmanship captures the essence of Celine’s timeless aesthetic. Made in Italy, this 2014 Trapeze model remains one of the house’s most coveted styles, emblematic of Phoebe Philo’s era at Celine – a period celebrated for its quiet confidence and purity of form.
About Celine: Celine is a French luxury fashion house founded in 1945 by designer Celine Vipiana and her husband Richard. Originally established as a made-to-measure children’s shoe boutique in post-war Paris, the label quickly evolved into a symbol of refined modernity and understated French elegance. Its early identity, marked by a whimsical red elephant logo by illustrator Raymond Peynet, gave way to a sophisticated ready-to-wear line for women in the 1960s, when the brand shifted focus toward clean silhouettes, fine tailoring, and luxurious leather goods. By the 1970s, Celine’s interlocking “C” motif, inspired by the chains encircling the Arc de Triomphe, had become an emblem of Parisian chic, accompanying the brand’s international expansion across Europe, North America, and Asia.
In 1996, Celine joined the LVMH Group, which propelled the house into global prominence through renewed focus on craftsmanship, contemporary design, and architectural retail spaces. Over the decades, the brand’s creative direction has passed through the hands of influential designers including Michael Kors, Phoebe Philo, and Hedi Slimane, each imprinting their own vision while maintaining Celine’s essential codes of elegance and restraint. Philo’s minimalist revolution of the 2010s defined a generation’s aesthetic with its focus on quiet luxury, while Slimane later introduced a youthful, rock-inflected energy, expanding the brand into menswear and fragrance. In 2025, Michael Rider, formerly of Ralph Lauren and a former design director under Philo, assumed the role of creative director, signaling a return to balance between heritage and innovation.
Today, headquartered at the historic Hotel Colbert de Torcy in Paris, Celine operates over 170 boutiques worldwide and remains a symbol of modern sophistication. With Severine Merle as CEO, the house continues to uphold its founding principles of exceptional craftsmanship and refined simplicity, merging French heritage with an evolving contemporary sensibility that speaks to a global audience.
