Eastern Europe, Russia / Ukraine, Byzantine Empire / Eastern Slavic cultures (Penkovka / Korchak), ca. 5th to 10th century CE. A pair of high-tin bronze fibula brooches with bold openwork bodies. On the reverse are surviving elements of the fastening system, including loop-and-clasp remnants and hinge-ring attachments that once held the pins. Size of largest: 3.5″ L x 1.75″ W (8.9 cm x 4.4 cm)
Condition: Missing pin attachments as shown. Surfaces are cleaned and stable, with dark patina throughout.
Provenance: ex-T.F. Holy Lands collection, formed since the 1960s
