Native American, Southwestern United States, Zuni Pueblo, ca. mid to late-20th century CE. A sterling silver bolo tie centered by a circular Sunface motif rendered in fine Zuni inlay of turquoise, mother of pearl, coral, and black onyx, with additional pendants suspended from conical tips at the ends of the braided leather cord. These two pendants are in the form of the Zuni mythic figure known as Knifewing, who appears in human-eagle form with sharp flint feathers. The verso is stamped “RLK STERLING” for Ralph & Lillie Kallestewa, noted Zuni artists recognized for precise stone fitting and balanced, graphic compositions, and the piece is mounted on a nickel-brass slide clasp, remaining fully wearable. Size of pendant: 2″ Diameter (5.1 cm); cord doubled: 40″ L (101.6 cm); silver quality: 92%

Condition: Dark patina and toning. Intact and wearable.
