Ancient Greece, Thrace, ca. 4th to 3rd century BCE. An elegant Thracian silver torque bracelet of rounded form, delicately hammered and engraved with a continuous band of incised linear motifs encircling its outer surface. The design, composed of diagonal and cross-hatched strokes, creates a rhythmic geometric pattern that catches the light across the bracelet’s smooth, silvery sheen. The terminals narrow into small loops at each end, a functional feature allowing the bracelet to be tied or suspended when not worn. Thracian metalwork was renowned in antiquity for its mastery of silver and gold, particularly in the creation of personal ornaments for both men and women. Torques such as this were not merely adornments but symbols of status, protection, and identity within Thracian warrior and aristocratic culture. Size: 3.9″ L x 3.3″ W (9.9 cm x 8.4 cm); silver quality: 99%; weight: 16.3 grams

The fine engraving seen here reflects a sophisticated regional aesthetic that blended local artistic traditions with Hellenic influence during the Classical and early Hellenistic periods. This bracelet stands as a testament to the refinement and enduring beauty of Thracian craftsmanship, its minimal design enhanced by the quiet luxury of hand-engraved silver.

Condition: Some bending and surface wear as shown, but, otherwise, intact, excellent, and wearable with good remains of incised decoration and rich patina to surface.
