In stock

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin culture, ca. 1200 BCE. A set of beautiful ear spools of tubular form, each hand-carved from mottled beige-hued stone with white and gray inclusions. The accessories are each carved with a notched front panel which is further incised with a quartet of harpy eagles, each with a curved beak and embellishments of red cinnabar. Size of each (both are relatively similar): 1.5″ W x 0.7″ H (3.8 cm x 1.8 cm); 3″ H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition: Minor nicks and abrasions, with surface cleaning in scattered areas to reveal stone color beneath, and light fading to cinnabar pigment, otherwise intact and excellent. Great preservation to finer details.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired from 2000 to 2010; ex-Ed Merrin Gallery, New York, New York, USA
