Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A compact and evocative Roman leaded brass insignia ring bearing a carved circular bezel with a figural scene in relief. The flat, round face depicts two standing figures facing one another, their forms rendered in simplified linear style, divided by a central palm branch or sheaf of wheat rising between them. The motif likely carries symbolic meaning. The palm branch in Roman iconography is associated with victory, peace, and triumph, while a sheaf of wheat may allude to agricultural abundance or the goddess Ceres. The paired figures could represent a ceremonial exchange, concord, or a religious or civic theme, though the precise interpretation remains open to scholarly debate.
