$162.50

In stock

A set of three antique leatherworking tools, including a large adjustable spokeshave (also known as a spoke plane, heel shave, or edge shave) with threaded brass knobs and a rosewood handle, stamped “S. Osborne & Co.” on the blade. Also included is an H. F. Osborne creaser with a narrow curved blade and grooved tip, marked at the neck, along with an unmarked fork-tipped edger used to bevel and round leather edges, fitted with a smoothly polished wood grip. The Osborne name traces back to a New Jersey tool business acquired by William Dodd in 1856 and transferred to his brother-in-law, C. S. Osborne, around 1858 to 1860. Osborne’s brother, H. F. Osborne, later branched off to form his own company around 1877, before selling it back to C. S. Osborne in 1905. Size of shaver: 6.25″ L x 1″ W (15.9 cm x 2.5 cm)

Condition: Wear as expected with age and use as tools. Smooth patina to wood handles from touch. Blades are worn down and maker marks are faint.

Provenance: private Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, USA collection
