In stock

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Java, ca. 19th century or earlier CE. A tall and striking tombak spear, featuring a long wooden shaft carved with a continuous grooved texture for both grip and decoration. Just above the shaft sits a 91% silver panel, finely worked in repousse with scrolling vine motifs, adding an element of prestige and craftsmanship. The weapon is fitted with an iron blade – similar to a kris – with elegant notched shoulders at the base. Protecting the blade is a carved wooden sheath or guard, modeled in relief with a dragon motif. This is a beautiful and imposing piece, perhaps once carried by a royal guard due to its ornate nature, blending ceremonial artistry with functional design. Size: 90″ L x 2″ W (228.6 cm x 5.1 cm); 90.5″ H (229.9 cm) on included custom stand; silver quality: 90%

Condition: Wood is smooth and lustrous with some pressure fissures near the blade. Iron blade has pitting and dark patina. Wood sheath pigment is faded and flaking off.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection
