$449.75

Native American, Mississippian, ca. 800 to 1600 CE. A sculptural Mississippian pottery bottle distinguished by three applied nodules subtly carved with eyes and mouths, transforming the vessel’s rounded body into a rhythmic procession of abstract human faces that animate its otherwise austere form. Size: 6.8″ Diameter x 6.8″ H (17.3 cm x 17.3 cm)

Provenance: private Colorado, USA Collection; ex-private Denver, Colorado, USA collection; ex-private New York, USA collection

Condition: Chipping and losses to rim as shown, as well as a few chips to body and shoulder and some nicks and pitting in areas, all commensurate with age. Stable hairline fissure from neck to base. Rich earthen deposits to interior.
