Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Atlantic Watershed region, Late Period V, ca. 700 to 1000 CE. A hand-carved basalt figure of a nude woman standing atop delineated legs while grasping both breasts with her hands, perhaps a gesture of fertility. Her sizable countenance exhibits slit-form eyes, broad nostrils, thin lips, and tab-shaped ears, all beneath a tiered coiffure that creates a dignified presentation. Size: 2.9″ L x 5″ W x 6.9″ H (7.4 cm x 12.7 cm x 17.5 cm)
Condition: Repair to right ankle, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions and pitting, with softening to some finer details, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to figural form.
