Central Asia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan or Kazakhstan, Uzbek people, ca. mid-20th century CE. A pair of patchwork textiles known as kurak, composed of colorful cotton, velvet, wool, and silk fragments arranged in geometric patterns. The triangular and diamond motifs were traditionally believed to offer protection against the evil eye. The larger textile features an openwork design with attachment cords along the edges, while the smaller example is constructed as a pillow cover with a red backing forming a functional pocket. Size of largest: 61″ L x 54.5″ W (154.9 cm x 138.4 cm)
Condition: Both have tears and fraying to cloth, especially the thin silk areas. Stains and discoloration to both. Good stable conditions and can be displayed as wall tapestries or framed.
