West Africa, including Sierra Leone, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast, ca. 20th century CE. A compelling group of eight miniature wood carvings featuring varied figural and utilitarian forms, including a polychrome Sierra Leone British police officer, a Lobi or Senufo bound couple with fiber ties, a Lobi bateba standing male figure with hands to chest, an Asante headrest, and a small club, all rendered in warm brown tones with areas of red, black, and natural patina reflecting use and age. Size of largest: 1″ W x 4.5″ H (2.5 cm x 11.4 cm); 4.7″ H (11.9 cm) on included custom stand.
Condition: Some nicks, chips, weathering, and abrasions as shown. Rich patinas throughout.
