Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumer, ca. 3000 to 1000 BCE. A group of ten strands of ancient steatite and shell beads in tones of white, charcoal, and soft gray. The beads are irregular in form, reflecting early drilling and shaping techniques, and display surface wear consistent with age. Currently loosely and unevenly strung for display purposes. Not wearable in present condition, though suitable for professional restringing for study or exhibition. Size of strand doubled: 22″ L (55.9 cm); beads: 0.1″ L x 0.1″ W (0.3 cm x 0.3 cm)

Condition: Strung in modern times on monofilament wires, and can easily be restrung for wearing. Chips and abrasions to beads as expected with age.
