Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of a gently carinated yet spherical form, with a pair of red-and-black janiform birds within larger linear borders with solid areas surrounding as well. Each peculiar avian creature bears a rectangular center panel with a zigzagging set of steppes in the middle, while the rim is adorned with checkered patterns on the exterior as well as linear triangle motifs on the interior surface. Size: 8.28″ Diameter x 6.625″ H (21 cm x 16.8 cm)

Condition: Professional repair and restoration to areas of rim and body, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and fading to original pigment, with chipping and spalls along bottom of interior, otherwise in nice condition. Great manganese deposits within interior.
