$520.00

West Africa, Ghana, Asante (Akan) peoples, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A sculptural Asante wood headrest carved in the distinctive form of an aardvark, its elongated snout and sturdy legs supporting a gently curved platform above. The compact, rhythmic carving reflects Akan design sensibilities, where even utilitarian objects were imbued with symbolic presence, the animal form perhaps evoking qualities of resilience and grounding while serving as a personal object of rest and status.
