Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Java, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A brass statue of the deity Ganesha shown seated in royal ease and set upon a throne beneath a parasol, an iconographic sign of sovereignty and divine protection. The four-armed figure holds traditional attributes, while a pair of elephants support the throne below, and the sculpture is mounted on a tiered wooden base for display. Size: 8.5″ H (21.6 cm); 10.75″ H (27.3 cm) on included custom stand.
Condition: Heavy weathering and patina. Fading to golden pigments on Ganesha. Heavy mineral encrustations throughout. Softening and losses to finer details. Pitting and abrasions. Stable and mounted on wood base.
