West Africa, Niger/Burkina Faso, Bura-Asinda-Sikka culture, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A tall stone funerary figure with an elongated columnar body surmounted by a stylized head, featuring rounded, projecting eyes, a pronounced mouth, and a long, narrow nose. The surface retains a granular texture, emphasizing its hand-shaped character and burial context. Figures of this type are associated with the Bura-Asinda-Sikka necropolises, where they were placed above graves as markers or commemorative sculptures, reflecting a complex funerary tradition tied to status and ancestral veneration. Size: 4″ W x 18.25″ H (10.2 cm x 46.4 cm); 20.5″ H (52.1 cm) on included custom stand.
Condition: Repaired, with pieces reattached and infill with new material along breakline. Old inventory number written on the surface.
