Pre-Columbian, Peru, Neolithic Period, ca. 10000 to 5000 BCE. An extremely rare Peruvian Venus figure exhibiting a highly stylized form amidst the naturally mottled brown, gray, and beige hues of the hand-carved stone. The abstract anthropomorphic figure presents nude with arms hanging at her sides, a distended abdomen visible above delineated legs, and an enormous head with a vertical nose and petite eyes. Remains of red pigment are visible across the face and suggest that this figure was accented with bright pigments at one time. Size: 2.375″ L x 2.875″ W x 8.875″ H (6 cm x 7.3 cm x 22.5 cm); 11.7″ H (29.7 cm) on included custom stand.
Condition: Chips and losses to peripheries and verso, with softening to finer details, pitting across obverse surfaces, and fading to remaining pigment, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to figural form. Previous inventory labels on verso.
