Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 600 to 800 CE. A hand-built pottery cylinder of petite size with an elaborate geometric motif in black and red pigment atop a white ground. Large, red-hued diamonds create open sections that are filled with either black steps or crosshatched diamonds. Size: 2.98″ Diameter x 2.625″ H (7.6 cm x 6.7 cm)
Condition: Professional repairs to rim and walls, with well-concealed break lines. Abrasions and light fading to pigment, otherwise in great condition. Nice root marks. Previous inventory labels beneath base.
Provenance: private Thornton, Colorado, USA collection; ex-Arte Primitivo, New York, USA; ex-private New York City, New York, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s
