Jalisco Redware Seated Semi-Nude Female Figure

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A wonderful pottery figure of a seated female shown bare-chested with legs bent before her, draped in a knee-length skirt. Sitting up straight, she bends one arm at the elbow to place her hand on her torso, just beneath her voluptuous breasts and broad shoulders. Her characteristic elongated head presents ovoid eyes, a curved nose adorned by a septum ornament, and a partially open mouth, all crowned by a helmet like headdress. Size: 4.4″ L x 8.8″ W x 11.6″ H (11.2 cm x 22.4 cm x 29.5 cm)

Condition: Missing left foot. Professionally repaired with restoration, all done very well and difficult to notice. Some chipping to slip and nicks and abrasions as shown, commensurate with age. Otherwise, nice presentation and earthen deposits to surface.

Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000
