Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Bali, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden handle intended to rest on the tang of a ceremonial dagger called a kris. The top portion features an abstract anthropomorphic figure, perhaps a stylized demon, who sits atop an elaborate, integral throne while holding a object behind its head. Below the carved figure is a lustrous spacer disc formed from 93% silver with 8 ovoid nodules protruding around the circumference. Size: 1.9″ W x 5.25″ H (4.8 cm x 13.3 cm); 7.5″ H (19 cm) on included custom stand; silver quality: 93%

Condition: Minor abrasions and nicks, with light tarnishing and small indentations to silver spacer disc, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina throughout. Previous inventory label beneath display stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired from 2000 to 2010
