Pair of Jalisco Pottery Seated Female Figures w/ Bowls

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A set of 2 hand-built and highly burnished pottery female figures, each presenting semi-nude with exposed breasts and tucked legs covered by a skirt. Each woman holds a sizable olla in both hands, wears elbow bangles and a septum ring, and exhibit ovoid eyes, prominent noses, and cupped ears. Red pigment covers the exterior surfaces in layers of color. Size of each (both are relatively similar): 3.125″ L x 4.5″ W x 5.9″ H (7.9 cm x 11.4 cm x 15 cm)

Condition: Each figure with light earthen deposits and abrasions, minor fading to pigment, and softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to figural forms.

Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000
