Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of carinated form with a convex base and a flared rim. The beige-hued exterior is decorated with swirling linear stripes, large triangular blocks, and zigzagging motifs in red and black pigment. The most exceptional Casas Grandes vessels are of the Ramos Polychrome type which required great skill and aesthetic vision. Size: 7.8″ Diameter x 6.625″ H (19.8 cm x 16.8 cm)

Condition: Fading and minor chipping to pigment, with abrasions and minor pitting in scattered areas, and small chips around rim, otherwise intact and excellent. Great motifs across exterior.

Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000.
