Pre-Columbian, Mesoamerica, Mexico, Mixtec culture, ca. 900 to 1521 CE. A substantial Mixtec stone tripod molcajete carved with a deep circular basin supported by three rounded legs, its surface bearing the pitted texture and softened edges of long use. Such mortars were central to Mixtec domestic and ritual life, employed in the grinding of maize, chile, pigments, and medicinal substances, with the elevated tripod form offering both practical stability and a quiet symbolic separation between earth, food, and ceremony. Size: 7.7″ W x 6.1″ H (19.6 cm x 15.5 cm)
Condition: Repair to rim with break line visible. Small areas of loss with chips, and abrasions throughout. Scattered earthen and mineral deposits.
