Lot 5b, Auction 4/19/2024: 19th C. Nepalese Bronze Figure Lakshmi / One of Taras
$892.50
In stock
Central Asia, Nepal, ca. 19th century CE. A cast-bronze figure of regal feminine form depicting either one of the Taras or the goddess Lakshmi. The woman stands semi-nude atop a lotus plinth while holding both arms down past her waist and peers forward from beneath an elaborate crown bearing an image of seated Buddha. A flaming mandorla behind the deity creates a more refined framework, and fine layers of patina create a dignified presentation. Size: 1.625″ L x 3.6″ W x 8.4″ H (4.1 cm x 9.1 cm x 21.3 cm)
Condition: Minor abrasions, with light softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina throughout.
Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private New York, USA collection
