Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Moche, Phase II, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery stirrup vessel of spherical form with a planar base beneath. The white-ground body is decorated with red-painted water birds, perhaps storks or pelicans, each with a long, slender beak, a crescent-shaped body, and a clawed foot beneath. A stirrup-shaped handle rises above the top of the shoulder and features a gently corseted spout. Size: 6″ W x 8.5″ H (15.2 cm x 21.6 cm)
This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report will accompany the item upon purchase.
Condition: Minor abrasions and fading to pigment, otherwise intact and excellent. Great preservation to water bird motif across exterior. TL drill holes inside of spout and beneath body.
