East Asia, China, late Ming to early Qing Dynasty, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. A tranquil stone head of Buddha displaying a pleasing, symmetric visage of downcast eyes, a flattened nose, and plump closed lips, all flanked by a pair of elongated ears symbolizing his enlightenment and a tightly-coiled coiffure arranged in a top bun. Size: 7.2″ L x 5.9″ W x 8.1″ H (18.3 cm x 15 cm x 20.6 cm)
Condition: Fragment of a larger piece. Chipping with loss to top of top bun, as well as weathering to surface with nicks and abrasions as shown. Otherwise, nice remaining detail and rich encrustations.
