Robert Aguilar (Native American, Santo Domino Pueblo, b. 1968) ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. A large handmade pottery olla using a black-on-black technique to create the graceful curvilinear patterns. The surface is polished to a bright luster and then a slip is applied which dries matte, with a slightly rough texture. Born into a family renowned for their pottery, Santo Domingo potter Robert Aguilar has been actively hand coiling in the Pueblo and Aguilar family tradition since the 1970s, utilizing natural clays, mineral paints, and pit firing methods. The underside is signed by the artist and “SD” for Santo Domingo. Size: 11″ Diameter x 14.5″ H (27.9 cm x 36.8 cm)
