Near East / Central Asia, Turkey / Northwestern Iran, Marlik or Cheragh-Ali Teppe region, Amlash / Amardi culture, Iron Age period, ca. 1200 to 600 BCE. A pottery pitcher resting on three wedge shaped legs, with a tiny strap handle and a tubular spout. Amardi Iron Age pottery is characterized by the burnished, but otherwise simple decoration, and the pieces often survived intact due to burial practices. People of this region often built cist graves, inground burial chambers lined with stone slabs, and offerings such as pottery were placed alongside the deceased. Size: 7.5″ Diameter x 4.75″ H (19 cm x 12.1 cm)

Condition: Chip to rim and above handle. Restoration to leg, spout and rim with new material. Minor surface nicks and abrasions. Previous inventory label beneath base.

Provenance: Private Greenwood Village, Colorado, USA collection, via inheritance; Leota Furlong Agett Persian Pottery collection, acquired in Tehran, Iran in the early 1960s
