Native American, United States, ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. A jaw bone and deer hoof rattle probably by a Native artist, but is unsigned. The wooden handle is covered in leather, wool, fur (perhaps black bear) and attached to a jawbone. Deer hooves and bones dangled from the jaw, striking together. The jawbone is wrapped in leather, so the teeth are hidden, and the side is stamped in black ink with a pawprint. Perhaps made for powwows or for sale / as a curio. Size: 9.5″ L x 7″ W (24.1 cm x 17.8 cm)
