Ancient Near East, Luristan, ca. 3rd to 1st millennium BCE; Roman, Republic period, ca. 6th to 2nd century BCE. A fascinating ensemble of 5 miniature bronze artifacts: 3 miniature daggers for ancient Luristan and a pair of pre-coins known as aes formatum from the Roman Republic. The daggers vary in form. The largest displays a ribbed blade with a perpendicular pommel pierced by a suspension hole. The other 2 are comprised of one with an eared pommel and another with 1 cutting edge on its blade. Alternatively, the aes formatum present a palmette shape with 6 points and a triangular, axe head shape. All are envelope in layers of russet and green patina evocative of the ancient world. Size of largest (ribbed dagger): 4.7″ L x 0.8″ W (11.9 cm x 2 cm)
Condition: Some minor chips to edge of 1 dagger and surface of axe head. All have expected abrasions and weathering commensurate with age. Double-eared dagger has small repair but other 4 are intact and all have very nice presentations and rich patinas throughout.
