In stock

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A delicate glass vessel of semi-translucent, turquoise hue with a broad, piriform body accentuated with several vertically-pinched tabs. The corseted neck made the vessel easy to hold while the flared mouth facilitated the pouring of the contents held within. Layers of delicate iridescence have formed across the exterior and imbue the vessel with a sophisticated presentation. Size: 3.7″ W x 5.5″ H (9.4 cm x 14 cm)

Exhibited in “Ancient Glass: Selections from the Richard Brockway Collection” at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University, Salem from March 10 to May 19, 2007 and “Glass of the Ancient World” at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, Florida from October 11 to December 28, 2008.

Condition: Minor abrasions, light weathering film, and some earthen deposits, otherwise intact and excellent. Great iridescence throughout. Previous inventory label beneath base.

Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, acquired before 2003
