She grew up in the house that became the Kelley House Museum. After her marriage, she became known primarily as Daisy MacCallum. She began acquiring Native American baskets in the mid-1880s and went on to assemble one of the largest private collections in the United States, much of which she donated to museums. She purchased works directly from Native makers and developed a reputation as a dedicated collector with broad intellectual curiosity. Reflecting her wide-ranging interests, she traveled to Egypt in 1923 to witness the opening of Tutankhamun’s tomb.
