Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th centuries CE. A fine ensemble of 5 Ancient Roman artifacts: a silver ring, 2 lapis lazuli intaglios, 1 glass intaglio, and 1 stone bead. Largest of the 5, the silver ring presents a beautiful ovoid inlay of emerald and cobalt glass flanked by a pair of decorative bas-relief orbs. Next, the lapis lazuli intaglios exhibit ovoid and circular forms and convex faces in opaque hues of royal blue. Each is hand-carved with an image: the oval shows a quadruped, and the circle displays a figure standing contrapposto while facing right and holding 2 objects, perhaps weapons. The fourth intaglio boasts a shimmering glass body of ovoid form in a shade of shamrock green and is incised with an indiscernible image. Last, the stone bead presents a rectangular form in colors of green and brown and is inscribed with a series indecipherable letters or symbols. Size (of largest): 0.75″ in diameter (1.9 cm); Quality of silver: 94%; Weight of ring: 4.9 grams; US ring size: 2

Condition: Erosion and encrustations to silver ring. Nicks, abrasions, and softening of detail to all stone and glass pieces.

Provenance: ex-Phoenicia Holyland Antiquities, New York, New York, USA, before 2010
