Native American, Northeastern United States / Canada, Iroquois / Mohawk peoples, ca. mid-19th century CE. An antique pouch made from cotton and brown velvet decorated with opaque and semi-translucent glass seed beads sewn in leaf motifs – characteristic of Iroquois style. The pouch has signs of use and age, but the majority of the beadwork is intact. Purses and other textile goods such as this, were made as sale items by Native women as a source of income. Size of textile pouch: 7.5″ L x 6.5″ W (19 cm x 16.5 cm); case: 12.25″ L x 8.25″ W (31.1 cm x 21 cm)
