Southeast Asia, Thailand or Burma, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden monk seated atop a tiered platform, covered in lustrous copper leaf, and holding both hands in the Bhumisparsha mudra. Size: 3.7″ L x 4.1″ W x 8.125″ H (9.4 cm x 10.4 cm x 20.6 cm)

According to the consignor, this piece was previously owned by the Portland Art Museum in Oregon.

Condition: Nicks and abrasions, with chipping to copper leaf layer, and softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to overall form. Previous inventory label beneath base.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired before 2001; ex-Portland Museum of Art, de-accession number 2001.82.7
