South Asia, India, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. A statue made from plaster covered cloth over sawdust or straw and a wood frame of a standing man dressed in pants and coat. Likely a nobleman and follower of Vishnu, with hands clasped in front on an integral platform base. Upon his forehead are 3 lines for the auspicious Ramanandi tilaka which is used by Hindu Vaishnavas. This statue may have been used as a temple entrance guardian or during religious festivals. Size: 14″ L x 11.3″ W x 37.25″ H (35.6 cm x 28.7 cm x 94.6 cm)

Condition: Abrasions and chips to surface plaster layers exposing the cloth layers. Heavier losses to pigment on base. Stable fissures to feet and body. Overall goood condition with a aged / weathered surface.
