North America, United States, 1976. An original “THE BIG APPLE” New York City poster designed by Ogilvy & Mather (April 1976) and signed by Leonard Bernstein. Edition number 1048 of 2500. The image features a stunning rendering of the Manhattan skyline at sunrise upon a shiny red apple with “THE BIG APPLE” adorning a rippling ribbon below, all against a creamy white background. At the bottom of the poster is the following humorous catchphrase in black,”You have to be a little crazy to live in New York, but you’d be nuts to live anywhere else”. Most exciting is the autograph of the one and only Leonard Bernstein at the bottom left! Given the recent film “Maestro” as well as the recent release of the film remake of “West Side Story” – scripted by Tony Kushner and directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg, this poster signed by Bernstein is quite timely. Condition: Mounted in a metal frame under glass and has not been examined outside the frame. Normal age wear but image, text, and Leonard Bernstein autograph are vivid.
