W. Wallick Painting Native American in Headdress (1990)

William Wallick (American, active in the 20th century). Native American in Headdress. Oil on canvas, 1990. Signed with date on lower right. An evocative painting by William Wallick, depicting a Native American from the waist up dressed in a sizable, feathered headdress and carrying a spear. Adorned with face paint, the figure is dressed in a beaded collar necklace, an armband, and a multi-layered, beaded chest piece. The dark-eyed figure faces forward, confronting the viewer, his stern visage comprised of naturalistic eyes, a broad nose, closed lips, and a clefted chin. The blurred gradient of the background helps to highlight the meticulous detail Wallick has employed in depicting this enigmatic figure. Size of painting: 19.5″ W x 23.5″ H (49.5 cm x 59.7 cm); of frame: 26.75″ W x 31″ H (67.9 cm x 78.7 cm)

Condition: Signed with date on lower right. Set in wood and fabric frame with suspension wire on verso for display. A few minor nicks and scuffs to frame; none affecting painting. In overall excellent condition.
