Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A ceremonial sword called a kris with a forged-steel blade bearing noteworthy serpentine profile and a hand-carved wooden hilt in the form of a demon. A gilt nickel-copper alloy spacer with colorful glass inlays sits between the blade and the hilt, while beautiful swirls of nickel form a pamor pattern across the steel blade. The weapon is accompanied by a sizable wooden sheath embellished by 4 relief maskettes. Size with sheath: 24.7″ L x 8.3″ W (62.7 cm x 21.1 cm); without sheath: 19″ L x 3.5″ W (48.3 cm x 8.9 cm); of blade: 13.8″ L x 3.5″ W (35.1 cm x 8.9 cm)

Condition: Hilt has been professionally repaired with break line visible and a few natural, stable fissures to wood, but otherwise kris is intact and in excellent condition. Light patina throughout.
