Robert Aguilar (Native American, Santo Domino Pueblo, b. 1968) ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. A large pottery olla vessel handmade and painted by Robert Aguilar. The black-on-black patterns are formed by polishing the surface to a bright luster and then applying a matte slip pigment. Born into a family renowned for their pottery, Santo Domingo potter Robert Aguilar has been actively hand coiling in the Pueblo and Aguilar family tradition since the 1970s, utilizing natural clays, mineral paints, and pit firing methods. The underside is signed by the artist and “SDP” for Santo Domingo Pueblo. Size: 9.5″ Diameter x 12″ H (24.1 cm x 30.5 cm)
