Native American, Western United States, Northern California, ca. 5000 BCE to 1700s CE. A group of 6 obsidian stone blades purportedly discovered near Clear Lake, California. The Clear Lake region has been inhabited for thousands of years by Indigenous communities including the Pomo, Wappo, and Yuki peoples, and is historically associated with abundant fishing and lake resources. Obsidian from the Clear Lake volcanic field, including sources around Borax Lake and Mount Konocti, was widely used for toolmaking and was traded across Native California for thousands of years. Size: 5.5″ L x 2.5″ W (14 cm x 6.4 cm)

Condition: Chips and abrasions, but otherwise intact with mineral deposits.

Provenance: private southwestern Pennsylvania, USA collection, acquired prior to 2000
