Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A rare example of a miniature amphoriskos carved from semi-translucent alabaster. The vessel exhibits an inverted piriform body, a cylindrical neck, and a pair of lug handles on the shoulder. Amphoriskoi like this held scented oils or other perfumes, typically in a woman’s toilette. Size: 1.39″ L x 1.38″ W x 2.39″ H (3.5 cm x 3.5 cm x 6.1 cm); 2.61″ H (6.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition: Small chips to rim and handles, with light abrasions, and light pitting in scattered areas, otherwise in excellent condition. Great surface smoothness throughout.

Provenance: private Lake Worth, Florida, USA collection, acquired via descent in April 1997; ex-private American collection in Cyprus, acquired between 1957 to 1969, brought to USA in 1969
