Lot 221, Auction 3/19/2026: Pre-Columbian Peruvian Bead Necklace w/ Bird Beads
$325.00
In stock
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Moche to Chimu Cultures, ca. 200 to 1500 CE. A mixed collection of ancient stone and shell beads, arranged in modern times and strung as a necklace, featuring pairs of warm sienna-toned stone discs alternating with tubular Spondylus shell elements in deep aubergine hues. Near the center, small bird and zoomorph-shaped beads add a distinctive sculptural accent and appear to be carved from stone or possibly formed in pottery. Strung on a contemporary wire with a modern magnetic clasp, the piece presents a wearable and balanced, earthy palette. Size of strand: 24″ L (61 cm); zoomorph bead: 0.75″ L x 0.45″ W (1.9 cm x 1.1 cm)
Condition: Minor chips and abrasions, but beads are intact and strung in modern times and wearable with a modern magnet clasp.
Provenance: ex-Moore collection, Houston, Texas, USA; ex-Barakat Gallery, Los Angeles, California, acquired 1990’s to 2005
