$325.00
In stock
Southeast Asia, Indonesia and Thailand/Laos, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A collection of four woven baskets displaying skilled handwork and varied regional forms. Two examples are closely related in construction, with broad open-weave bodies, thick cane and bamboo strips, and reinforced bases with wooden slats, suggesting use as fishing or prawn baskets. The remaining two baskets are lidded containers raised on tall wooden panel feet, with tight-fitting covers and finely patterned weaving. One resembles a Thai kong khao, traditionally used for holding cooked rice. Size of largest : 6.5″ L x 5″ W x 9.5″ H (16.5 cm x 12.7 cm x 24.1 cm)
Condition: All are tightly woven and intact. Dark patina and some minor abrasions to wood panels.
Provenance: private Anahola, Hawaii, USA collection, acquired 1970s to 1990s
