Native American, Southwestern United States, Zuni Pueblo, ca. mid to late-20th century CE. An adorable pottery plate featuring a central, spotted frog with a raised head in high relief, all painted in hues of brown, orange, and green atop a beige ground. Nearly at the center of the shallow basin, the amphibian is shown with legs spread, delineated toes, large eyes, and an ovoid adorning its back. Spiraling triangular motifs embellish the area to either side of the creature. Frogs represent the presence of water- the vital element that sustained people, flora and fauna. Size: 5.25″ L x 5″ W x 1.25″ H (13.3 cm x 12.7 cm x 3.2 cm)
