Native American, Southwestern United States, Acoma Pueblo, ca. early 20th century Ce. A hand-built pottery olla jar of classic form with a concave foot, a broad, apple-shaped body, a sloped shoulder, and a thick rim surrounding the deep basin. The surface is slipped in a creamy white and painted with black and umber-brown geometric motifs with birds – a popular motif known as rain parrots. The rain parrots perch on the stems of flowering plants, a symbol of water and life – appropriate for olla water carrying jugs. Size: 11.5″ Diameter x 9.75″ H (29.2 cm x 24.8 cm)

Condition: Some minor chips and abrasions to the surface. Craquelure to pigment. Some encrusted residue in green in several areas. Good condition without repairs.
