Native American, Midwestern to Southeastern United States, probably Arkansas, Mississippian culture, ca. 1350 to 1600 CE. A large hand-built earthenware cooking jar with a Parkin Punctate type of surface, and a globular body rising to a wide open mouth and thickened rim. Four evenly spaced strap handles are applied at the shoulder, each with a set of small nubs. The surface is covered in dense punctuated decoration, creating a textured exterior that enhances grip when wet. Size: 9″ Diameter x 8″ H (22.9 cm x 20.3 cm)
Condition: Losses to the surface layers on the exterior and interior. Old chips to rim. Stable hairline fissures on the interior. Earthen and mineral deposits on the interior, and root marks.
