Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Sumba Island, ca. 19th century CE. A remarkable stone funerary stele known as a penji carved in the form of a figural megalith. Examples like this would have been placed next to the tomb of a high ranking individual and are said to represent slaves and personal attendants whose spirits are believed to accompany the deceased at the funeral.
